So I was browsing around when I stumbled upon the English Guy and his wonderful Open Air wordpress template / theme. It’s a very nice, clean 2 column template based on the mountain scenery shot. I also read that he recently ported it into drupal as well. Here’s the rundown:

It’s a two column theme, sidebar on the right as you can see from the screenshot above. As of March 2009 it now has an admin panel in the wordpress admin backend that lets you set which side the sidebar rests on, left or right.

This theme is geared towards the eco-friendly, environmentalists, outdoors types, etc. and is a nice way to showcase your blog related to these general topics.

I love the mountains!

This theme is geared towards a small company or educator that has a quick presentation idea that they would like to share and get comments and other feedback from others. The clean look lends itself to a professional image while the theme is not too “techy” or “computery”. In fact, the wood paneling on the sides provides a somewhat retro look and feel.

I don’t know about you, but I really like uploading and using relatively new templates like Presentation (15 downloads at time of this posting) which lets me know that most people who see the template in use on my blog will be seeing it for the very first time.  I enjoy being unique.

Notepad Chaos is the first FREE Word Press template from Smashing Magazine we’ve reviewed and we must say…. WOW!

What a great design AND functionality. This theme has 2 columns, a quite vibrant design including “personal” design elements such as handwritten headings, stick-it-notes, clips and pins. The theme was designed by Evan Eckard especially for Smashing Magazine and its readers.

This template is youthful although very sophisticated. Therefore, I see this as attractive to 20 and 30 somethings for use on their personal blogs. As with most FREE things on the Internet, you should always read the fine print, partially reprinted here:

“You can use the theme for all your projects for free and without any restrictions. However, it’s forbidden to sell or redistribute the theme without both designer’s and Smashing Magazine’s permission — please link to this article if you would like to spread the word. You may modify the theme as you wish, but if you are planning to release your modification, please ask our permission first.”

Overall, I really like the style of this template. We’ve all seen the “notebook” theme but not quite like this!
